Role: Lead Product UX designer

The Context

Google, a global tech titan best known for its search engine, has ventured into various digital realms. The Google NEST RENEW Premium service is their take on energy-efficient smart homes, while the Chromebooks Gaming landing page highlights their gaming-optimized laptops. They've also used the Chrome download landing page for design innovations and introduced the Privacy Sandbox website to emphasize data protection. Moreover, the experimental features in Google Search showcase their dedication to refining their flagship service for US users.

The Challenge

Collaborating with an industry giant like Google brought its own set of complexities. From redesigning key web pages like NEST RENEW and Chromebooks Gaming to pioneering initiatives in Chrome and Google Search, the overarching challenge was to consistently innovate while adhering to Google's high standards and brand identity. Balancing creativity with the expectations of such a prominent client was a continuous journey.

The Privacy Sandbox

Led a team of two designers in the complete overhaul of the Privacy Sandbox website. In collaboration with developers, copywriters, and a QA analyst, we addressed two major challenges: First, we integrated complex data visualization timelines into a mobile-friendly format. Second, we expanded the site's accessibility by adding language support for diverse regions, including the intricacies of Japanese. The result is a globally accessible, visually striking site that simplifies complex data for the end user.

Nest Renew Premium

Assumed leadership for the UX of Nest Renew's premium subscription service. Collaborated with visual designers, copywriters, and illustrators to fine-tune the user flow, helping users easily identify their thermostat types. We elevated the journey by strategically spotlighting data on climate change, encouraging a seamless transition to our premium, eco-conscious service. The end result is an intuitive, data-driven experience that boosts subscriptions while emphasizing environmental impact.

Chrome experiments

Participated in a series of UX and visual experiments that employed A/B testing with real-time Google users. Our multidisciplinary team faced the delicate challenge of fine-tuning an already well-positioned product. Finding the sweet spot for adjustments was critical; we had to enhance engagement and downloads without conflicting with users' established mental models. Through a meticulously iterative approach, we successfully identified user preferences that boosted engagement and increased browser downloads, all while maintaining the product's strong standing.

Chromebooks for gaming

Collaborated on the creation of a visually striking yet intuitively navigable landing page for Chromebooks gaming. The project posed a unique challenge: determining the ideal page structure, content, and visuals that would resonate with users while guiding them toward purchase. Employing user interviews and surveys, we gathered the insights needed to craft a page that not only excited users about the variety of gaming possibilities but also effectively funneled them to the product display page, resulting in higher conversion rates.
